With his 'Omaggio a Vivaldi' Enjott Schneider drew a musical portrait of the Italian Baroque master. Whereas the first movement illuminates the topic of Vivaldi's scandalous relationship with the prima donna Anna who was his junior by 25 years, the second movement focuses on the composer of magical dream worlds who was far ahead of his time. The final virtuoso picture characterizes Vivaldi in the way that many of his contemporaries saw him: as a manically composing eccentric. The Concerto for recorder, strings and harpsichord is dedicated to the virtuoso flutist Stefan Temmingh. Created by the composer himself, the piano score now makes this interesting piece accessible for chamber music purposes.

For descant recorder, strings and basso continuo. For descant recorder, strings and basso continuo. With these new editions, all six recorder concertos of John Baston are now available, each with score, piano score and parts. The thoroughly edited scores follow essentially the first edition printed by John Walsh in London in 1729. Baston was regarded as an excellent recorder and flute player who worked with London opera orchestras in the early 18th century. His easy concertos anticipating the elegant melody of the early classical period enjoy great popularity representing a rewarding task for music school orchestras and advanced recorder players.

The aim of these little Consort Books is twofold. (1) to provide, in handy form, music for informal groups of recorders, strings and piano * examples of the best part-music of each age; and (2) to suggest to the producers of period plays, pageants and maskes, short pieces which they could use for incidental music and dances. In this, the addition of the recorder to the more usual strings and piano can give the period quality which would otherwise be lacking.

Handel wrote two versions of this work: as concerto for organ and orchestra, Op. 4 No. 5, and as sonata for alto recorder and basso continuo, Op. 1 No. 11. In the early 18th century, it was common practice to replace a solo instrument with another one. This arrangement is therefore equivalent to an original work since each note in the score is an original one by Handel except for the realization of the basso continuo, of course, though this, too, follows Handel's original organ part.
